The Civic Museum
On the top floor of the tower the austere personality with the important moustache , depicted in the head and shoulders portrait conspicuous in the centre of the room, catches your attention. He is Count Camillo Valle, an important character in the history of Portogruaro and the territory. At the beginning of the 20th century he was the instigator of a huge land reclamation, realized in the extensive marshy area, that stretched southward of Portogruaro and Concordia, and was also the main advocate for the construction of the Superphosphate factory of Portogruaro, a very interesting example of industrial archeology. Fond of art, Count Camillo Valle proved himself also a generous patron towards Valentino Turchetto, a 20th century sculptor of Portogruaro. Among the photos of the superphosphate factory and the bas-reliefs of Valentino Turchetto, two documents deserve particular attention: a manifesto written in China ink calligraphy, celebrating the consecration of the new Town Cathedral on August 4th, 1833, and the weathervane of the ancient bell tower. Yes, exactly the same as the one represented on the municipal coat of arms.
