Venice Republic
The Republic of Venice established its power on Portogruaro and the territory from 1420 onwards and maintaining it until Napoleon removed the last Venetian doge, thus putting an end to the long life of the Venetian State. Venice the Dominant bestowed numerous privileges on Portogruaro including exclusive trading conditions over certain merchandise. For example, the iron imported by the State from the Noric mines had to necessarily go through Portogruaro to get to the lagoon centre.
