The Palazzi of via Cavour

Palazzi Perrero and Doardo

Walking along Via Cavour one has the impression that here time has literally stood still. The palazzi that adorn this splendid street in the heart of Portogruaro have an unequalled historical and architectural significance. Among them, we cite Palazzo Perrero. Its present configuration goes back to the 15th century and is mainly of Renaissance style. The entrance is a long atrium leading to an internal garden and displaying along its sides a series of doors leading into other rooms. On the first floor the spaces are vast and among the titles adorning the large wooden bookcase in the sitting room there is one of a great historical importance: we are talking of the “accounts book” by Dario Bertolini (a lawyer of Portogruaro, a great scholar of local history, who conducted several archeological excavations in the territory, becoming director of the Concordia Museum), who lived in Palazzo Perrero in his adult years. Another palazzo of undoubted beauty is Palazzo Doardo, the huge Renaissance style building dominating Via Cavour No. 11. Throughout the centuries this wonderful palazzo underwent continual additions and changes, preserving, however, on the façade (just under the eaves at the top of the building) fragments of old frescoes.
