Via del Rastrello
The Rastrello Road and the Rastrello Bridge recall in the names the chain that was stretched across the river, in the proximity of the bridge, to block the transit of the boats. We know that the bridge already existed in the 14th century and that it was a wooden one, as were all the other bridges of the town. In 1552 it was re-constructed in stone by the “podestà” Giovanni Moro who wanted to leave his work for posterity, affixing to it the bas-relief of his coat of arms, the emblem of the municipality and the Lion of St. Mark. Such sculptures were rescued from the ruins of the bridge which was destroyed by the retreating Austrians troops on Nov. 3rd 1918. The bridge was again reconstructed in the aftermath of the war, between 1919 and 1922.
